Biography

Jeff Fassett is a photographer, entrepreneur, husband, father, animal lover, vintage jazz record collector, and traveler.

His long and winding road to becoming a photographer began one childhood summer in Yosemite with his Kodak disk camera. He amazed his family and friends with his ability to fill a whole "disk" of film on a couple blue jays or a seemingly interesting tree bark texture. Not quite Ansel Adams but you have to start somewhere. In college at UCSB, he got his first SLR, a fully manual Ricoh, with which he wasted lots of film learning about light, exposure, and composition. In the ensuing years, he spent lots of time and money on photography while he pursued his first career in the software industry.

The Fassett family, as it turns out, is filled with artists and entrepreneurs. Some would say becoming a photographer was his destiny. Then one summer he had an epiphany! He left his corporate career and went to the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. Skip ahead several years, and today he runs Fassett Photography from his office and studio in Camarillo, CA. Jeff has been living his dream as a portrait, event, and corporate shooter all over Southern California and beyond.

As a photographer, Jeff is focused on people - how to light them, how to pose them, how to evoke emotion from them, how to interact and have fun with them...in general how to make them look their very best. He shoots all kinds of people in all kinds of settings, from one tiny baby to one huge wedding, from the studio to far off locations. The technical aspects of photography are now second nature, and this allows Jeff to put his attention to the finer details of putting someone at ease in order to capture their true personality. He is also quite accomplished in Photoshop, and the detailed post production of his images is an important part of his workflow.

Jeff has a BA in Sociology from UCSB, an MBA from Georgetown University, and studied for two years at the Brooks Institute of Photography before leaving to begin his business. He is married to his beautiful wife Rebeca and is the proud father of twin boys Nicolas and Blake, who are two years old. Rounding out the household are his dogs Bella and Guapo and cat Oliver.

If Jeff had any spare time, he would enjoy traveling, collecting vinyl records, wine tasting, reading, playing with his dogs, and watching sports.

It took Jeff until about 30 to realize that making a career out of something you enjoy is a key to happiness in this world. He truly enjoys what he does, and you can see that right away in the passion, the joy, and the dedication that he brings to every shoot.
