Biography
Jeff
Fassett has had a long and winding road to becoming a professional
photographer. The first ten years of his career was in management
and marketing in the software business, but he found himself spending
all his spare time and money on photography. He always admired people
who somehow managed to make a career out of something they loved
to do. Of course, Fassett had always wanted to be an entrepreneur
- it runs in the family. Finally he had the guts to walk away from
the corporate world into the creative world of photography.
With a bachelor's degree in Sociology from
the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an MBA from Georgetown
University, Fassett was undaunted in returning to school again,
this time at the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara,
California. There he found the technical skills so important in
photography, as well as his personal style and vision, which as
it turns out, is far more important. Fassett now runs Fassett Photography
from his office and studio in Ventura, California.
In his commercial work, Fassett is equally
at ease photographing people and products, both in the studio and
on location. His goal is to get the shots right and to please the
client, period. With a corporate background in such companies as
IBM, AOL, and Xerox, he brings an unexpected level of professionalism
and experience to each assignment.
In his personal work, Fassett is always after
motion, and he prefers the abstract to the realistic. If the picture
is too literal, too obvious, what is left for the viewer to interpret?
He strives to create imagery that you can't necessarily see in real
life, through long exposures in low light or use of flash mixed
with ambient light. Notwithstanding his background in the fundamentals
of studio shooting, Fassett prefers to be on location, where he
strives for a candid, photojournalistic angle.
Aside from photography, Fassett enjoys international travel, playing
with his dog, collecting records, wine tasting, performances of
all kind, and computers.
